We chose the 2 night 3 day cruise and we all wished we could have stayed longer. The boat was as good as the website looks the trip from beginning to end was very professional and the crew all very helpful, efficient and well trained new team. Thanks to all of you, we had so much fun. Loved the kayaking through caves, the amazing scenery , the ride on Cat Ba island ,make sure you don’t miss this, the tea ceremony , cooking class and coconut wine , squid fishing at night ,all so much fun. There is so much more ,stunning sunsets on glass like water , everywhere you look is worthy of a photo.
So glad we chose this boat as some we saw were so rough and old. I suffer from seasickness and was a little concerned I was in for bad time but Halong Bay was so calm and boat so steady I left medicine in bag. The only thing that I would want to see changed when we go back as we all want to was the meals. The food was fine but very western we all would have liked more of your Vietnamese menu, please think about this as the Spring rolls and Pho was food highlight for me I guess it will be impossible to please everyone! Thanks Constance (manager) and crew, truly a great memory.

My husband and I also had a wonderful trip on our 3 day 2 night cruise of Halong Bay with Auco. The shuttle ride from Hanoi to Halong Bay was long. Our shuttle driver was generally pretty safe -- he didn't engage in the usual dangerous passing on 2 lane roads that most of the drivers in the area engaged in.
The suite was spacious for a cruise ship and also had an outdoor patio at the front of the boat. Much to our surprise, the food on the ship was fantastic. It was the best food we had in Vietnam (our other two days in the country were spent in Hanoi). Each meal was a 4 course affair. They were also really accommodating for food allergies and preferences. My husband mentioned to them that I didn't like mushrooms or squid, which appeared on the menu on several occasions -- and the chef had did a graceful substitution each time.
The staff was very friendly and well trained. The cruise director and assistant director were nice fellows to hang out with for a few days -- they led the excursions to Cat Ba Island and the Sung Sot Caves.

We as a couple took 3 days 2 nights package with Au Co Cruise in February. We were really happy and satisfied with all services and activities. The Deluxe room was also nice and comfortable. Andrej(Cruise manager) and all staffs were very professional, friendly and helpful. The food was always excellent. One of us is vegeterian and had absolutly no problem at all. They always prepared separately nice vegeterian food for us. In addition, it's worth to get up early to see the memorable view in the morning together with doing small exercise (Tai Chi). All in all we enjoyed a lot and had nice time travelling with Au Co Cruise to see beautiful Halong bay and would like to strongly recommend this cruise with luxury service for your travel.

My wife and I booked the Au Co cruise, even though it was a bit more expensive than what we were looking to pay, we decided to splurge. I must say, we had a blast, the boat and especially the crews were just fantastic. At one point one of the guests was having a hard time getting back to the boat due to being tired (and over weight) and two of the crew thought he was in trouble and actually jumped into the water with their clothes on the help him. That is how dedicated they are. The boat is by far the largest in the bay compared with the other cruises. They kept us busy with very fun things to do (kayaking, biking, swimming, cave exploring). Make sure you do the Cat Ba bike ride, very neat to ride through the simple Vietnamese village and good exercise. Overall, just a great experience and we are very glad we chose Au Co. The Captain is really funny Aussy too!
We have been thinking of going to Vietnam for quite some time. Finally in June/July school holidays we took off to Vietnam with my family. I had read so many recommendations about Halong Bay therefore we didn’t want to miss this place. There are so many junk boats in Ha Long bay and it’s very difficult to decide which one to go with. We decided to do 3 days and 2 nights with Au Co cruise and we booked this cruise through Visit Wonder. We were picked up by shuttle bus about 8 am to take us to Ha Long bay. The bus journey to Ha Long bay was very comfortable. We had a rest stop about half way through the journey on both directions.
Once we reached to Halong Bay, we were taken to open dining area where we were offered free drinks while waiting to board the Au Co cruise. After about half an hour of waiting, we were taken by a smaller boat to the Au Co where we were greeted by staff. Our luggage was taken to the cabin. I couldn’t believe how beautiful the cabin was. The hardwood floor, beautiful bathroom, beautiful linen, nice plush towels, fresh flowers, small refrigerator and a tea/coffee making facility. Oh yes, there was a safe box also.
Our lunch was in a dining area. We were treated to a delicious 6 course lunch (2 entrée, 2 main course and 2 desserts). The presentation of every meal was like you would see in a top hat restaurant. In fact we had a 6 course lunch and dinner every day. Since my husband doesn’t eat beef or pork, the chef was able to accommodate this request for rest of the trip. We ate so much food that we put on weight. I must start the exercise routine again to get rid of the excess kilos. By the way, the only thing you have to pay for is your drinks (water and tea is free).
My teenage children, I thought they might be complaining of no TV or internet but to my surprise, this wasn’t the case at all. There were many activities to keep them occupied. Kayaking, swimming/snorkelling, squid fishing at night and bike riding in Cat Ba Island. We visited floating village and also saw the caves. We also learnt to make spring rolls. There were many board games to keep children occupied.
There were only 13 passengers in Au Co so we were very much pampered. The staff were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. We actually got to know them very well. One of the crew member turned 21 so some of the passengers joined in his birthday celebration. All of us felt like a one big family. Those who could manage to wake up early, there was Tai Chi in the morning for 45 minutes. I thought Tai Chai was a light exercise but I started to sweat in the warm up.
To cut this story short, our experience in Au Co was the highlight of our holidays in Vietnam. I would highly recommend going Ha Long bay especially in Au Co luxury boat. Oh, I miss that emerald green water, it was so refreshing to swim in it. To enjoy the beauty of Ha Long bay, 3 days and 2 nights is a must.

If you want a first class ship and cruise in Halong Bay, this is the line on which to travel. The Au Co ships, there are two, are new within the last year. The ships are clean and seaworthy. The crew is beyond helpful and friendly. The food stands out as some of the best on our 2 week trip to VN. We had the opportunity to cycle on Cat Ba island and visit a floating village. You will not be disappointed to spend a couple of days kicking back and relaxing while seeing some of the most amazing islands formations in the world.

From the moment we laid eyes on the boat, we knew something special was going to happen.. the biggest and best boat in Halong Bay it was intimidating other boats. The service quality was amazing, the five course meal fantastic, the rooms comfortable, the cooking presentation enjoyable, the squid fishing a must, the captain was very knowledgeable (Aussie) The tour was well thought and very well catered for. When in Halong Bay - Au Co is a must....

As has been mentioned Au Co is the biggest boat on the bay but when we were there it only had 20 of us there, sleeps about 65. But the trips before and after ours were booked out.
We got incredibly lucky to have all that space and to have such absolutely, totally fantastic weather (though I looked like a sodden rag after the bike ride - the word 'humid' sometimes just doesn't go far enough.)
We spent most of the time away from other boats and in fact they make a nice backdrop for photos and so didn't have the experience others here have spoken of having too many tourists, we just didn't find that at all (but July is low season, no real idea why, I think everyone thinks it's going to rain all the time but it was great for two days and stormed on the day we were leaving but we all appreciated the drama!)
So the Au Co:
- Beautiful cabin with a deck (the Deluxe Double room does not really have a deck so while it's bigger it seemed to us to not be worth a price difference - either get one of the suites (beautiful) or just a regular room on the 2nd floor with a balcony), sit back, watch the scenery.
- The food is great, not a single problem tummy-wise - got a cooking lesson too!
- The activities are all great, it's not like you sit around bored, though you are perfectly free not to do activities if you'd rather stay and sunbake!
- It's the crew that makes it - from the Australian captain (hilarious) to the Swiss (don't ask him where in France he comes from!) cruise director to the Vietnamese managers and crew - everyone was just lovely to us, totally dedicated to our comfort and make wicked mango daquiries - what's not to like!
Happy to recommend the Au Co, we had a great time!
